Dryer dryes fine but does not turn off. The knob stays where you set it when you start it. Changed the timer but that didn't fix problem.

As your dryer is not turning off, I would contact Whirlpool directly at 1-866-698-2538.

I cleaned the dryer then tried it again. Noticed the burner comes on when you first put the clothes in and turn it on. Then as the clothes start drying the igniter comes on but the burner does not light. Could this be a bad coil on the gas valve? Any sugestions.

Most likely the problem is a bad gas valve coils.
