My parents have a GE GSS25QGTA and it isnt working now that their house to a hit from lightning the other day. They have a chest freezer and an older fridge in the garage and both of them work. As soon as the strike happened the screen started flashing all 0's and the next morning they noticed the fridge and freezer werent cooling. They can still hear the compressor running (or atleast thats what they say, could be a fan or something) but its just not cooling. I told them to let me see what I could do to fix it after the holiday weekend, but they went out and bought a new one today.

I am thinking that I should be able to just buy a new mother board and get this thing working. What else could be bad other than the mother board or in additon to the mother board? Any way to test the various electronic components to see whats bad? FYI, I have expereice in applicance repair, but mostly on older, not electronic refridgerators. Thanks in advance guys

I took the mother board out today and looked at it, no visible signs of damage (ie black marks or melted solder joints). I know it could still be a bad board, but I dont want to buy a new one if the thing is good..... Any ideas?

Evaporator fan seems to be the only thing running. Compressor doesnt kick on and nothing else that I can tell comes on.

onlything that comes to my head is maybe the overload/ptc on compressor is shot i think that has to be ok for compressor to run and condensor fan to run you could try taking off the overload /ptc on compressor and shake it if rattles or sounds likke sand moving around in there then i think it is bad Again i am not expert but hopefully someone will jump in give you better advice

I know the compressor is controlled by the mother board because it plugs into it. Between that and the display on the front flashing all 0's and not responding to anything, I cant help but to belive its the mother board....
