Hi,
Dont mean to hijack a thread but I am new and I didnt want to start a new topic about the same thing.
I have a GE GDS18LBR.. The evap coils keep freezing and stopping the evap fan. I verified with a meter that the heater and thermistat are ok.. so I replaced the defrost timer. However it is still icing over and stopping the fan.
When I manually turn the timer it goes into defrost and the heater heats up and melts the ice.
One thing is The evap motor seems to be making a little more noise than I remember.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I first want to say thanks everyone for their quick reply.
I have checked the evaporator drain( poured water down and it came out the bottom of the back of the fridge). I also checked Part# 8 and it seems pretty dry. as of right now I have part #2 completely off and I am running the fridge with part# 15 closed up pretty good. Like I said it seems the defrost cycle is doing its job however the evap coils seem to ice over pretty fast(~1hour maybe less) and stop the evap fan.
Not sure but I would say this either is poor circulation from the evap fan, or lack of refrigerant but I dont think thats possible. ?

Gene. Check your evaporator fan motor rotation & can you identify where the fan is touching the ice? Is it in the housing or the evaporato coil ice . After 1 hour it should not build up so much ice to block the fan. Put the cover back on & ck air flow in both freezer & ref section. Also is the evaporator fully frosted going down to the SUCTION LINE . :rolleyes:

Hello everyone. This is my first post.
I have a model GSH22JFTACC which is freezing up. The main board was changed in January but is still freezing up. After reading a bit. I looked for the thermistors. I think they are original since they don't appear to be spliced. I'll try to test them next.
Does anyone know if there's away to get the computer to turn on the defrost cycle besides jumping out the line and defrost terminals?

I do not think this model has ability to force defrost cycle.
