I have a stackable Maytag washer/dryer unit. After the washer fills up with water, it will not go into the next cycle and start washing. It has done this before, but by closing the lid harder...it would start washing. I need to know what part I need in order to have this fixed. I called a repair man and he said it would be cheaper to purchase another unit...I don't want to do that. I have a handyman that diagnosed the problem before I called the repair man, but he didn't know the name of the part that is needed. He thought a trigger...but there is no such part. Could you help me with the name of the part that I would need?:)

Astouding that a Repair Tech would tell you that. What is the name of his company, "Idiots r Us"?
Sounds like a simple Lid Switch repair. I have not worked on one of these in a while so I am going from memory, but you should be able to access it by inserting a screw driver in the gap between the front and top panels near the edges and releasing clips which hold the front panel on. You can then take off the top and get to the switch assembly.

Thank you so much...could you please tell me the name of the part? I looked under switch assembly and lid switch...but could not find a part by that name. What would you suggest?

Please talk me through the removal of the front control panel on my stackable Maytag unit, as I'm trying to locate the lid switch. Thank you!

I think you need a repair manual, and we can no longer link you to Maytag service library as they have closed it to general public use.
I suggest you locate a service manual which can probably be downloaded for a nominal fee. The problem with your lid switch may just be the fuse, so check that out first.
