Hello everyone,

I have a Maytag SE 1000 Series 5 stackable washer/dryer that hasn't worked since I moved a week ago. The computer display does not turn on. I recently had a repairman look at it and verified that the transformer and wiring are fine but the control board may need replacing. However, since he was here, I found that if I remove the ribbon from the control board and plug it back in, the dryer kicks on (regular, E2 normal dry), but none of the control pad buttons work. Also, if I remove the ribbon again and plug it back in, the washer kicks on as well (rinse cycle, large load, "1" is displayed on the display). Again, none of the buttons work. Would I still need to replace the control board? Or maybe just the touch pad/ribbon? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Also thinking either the relay, or something connected to it, may be the culprit. Thoughts?

Attempted to replace the control board and the same symptoms occurred.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for SE 1000 models | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a manual
16000416 Maytag Stacked Washer Dryer S1000 Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com
You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

Note: I am not 100% sure that the service manual is for your unit.

Sounds like a touch pad (Item 14 in Section 8) problem.
At leaset that is where I would start.

See page 4-4 in the service manual on how to check it.

You may want to try the following.
Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

The ribbon is looking pretty chewed up. Do they sell the ribbon separately or would I need to reorder the entire control pad assembly?

Unfortunately you have to get the entire keypad.
