I have a stacked GE WSM2700 washer/dryer. The heating element went out of the dryer. We had a service man put in a new heating element. Several weeks after the repair, the dryer started taking real long to dry and the heating element does not get red hot glow anymore. If you put the setting on so many minutes it will shut off. If you put the setting on auto dry to a certain point it will never shut off. What could be the problem? Need a new heating element? Need a new timer for the dryer? or Need a new thermostat for the dryer?
Please give me your solutions?
Ron

GE likes to keep their tech info a secret so the below is just general info and not specific to your unit.

It sounds like you may need a new heating element. The timer motor in many units gets power directly from power in, when in Timed Dry. In Auto modes, the timer motor get powers from the heater when it is shut off. So if the heating coil is blown or grounded never the timer does not advance. In your case it sounds like the heating coil is grounded, has sagged or broken and is touching the case/frame. To check this. Unplug the unit Unplug both wires going to the heating coil and measure it, should be around 10 ohms. Then check from each connector to the case/frame both should be infinite ohms (open). Often you can see the problem when inspecting the coil. |
