My oven is also older scd272 (2000) and Thermador paid for the repair. Call them.

Who repaired it? I sent the part in and Thermador did not want to touch it.

Guys,

I just performed the capacitor replacement and I can confirm it worked perfectly. Furthermore, the only capacitor that needs to be replaced is the smaller 68uf that is in between the larger 470's on the side. Replacing the 470's made no change for me. The display went bright only after replacing the 68uf.

Also, there's no need to send off for these capacitors. Your local radio-shack has them. Mine was out of stock on the 68uf, but I used a 100uf which worked just fine.

Keep rockin. Thanks for the info.

The display on our oven is very dim, the only part of the display that shows anything is the clock, the oven still seems to work.
I was going to order the touchpad because the connections seemed a little sloppy in back.If I change that, the problem should be fixed?

TIA

I had the same symptoms you describe, I change the 3 capacitors as mention in the post.It corrected the proplem. The touch pad is likely not your problem.

Note that on some models (SMY272YP) the C3 cap is actually a 220uF cap

If you have the 220uf cap in place of the 68uf you may find that your display is already bad and needs to be replaced. I beleive that that circuit may be a voltage doubler circuit and by increasing the cap raises the vlotage to the display. That will shorten the life of the display to the point of having to replace the display itself

Probably so. Replacing the 220uF cap did nothing to improve the display. have not replaced trhe 470uF cap's, but not sure that will make a difference. This board was replaced in about 2005/6, but degraded over time. Have had nothing but problems with this product since we bought it in 2002.

If it had the 220uf cap in there then the display itself is bad. The 220uf cap increases the voltage to the display and that increase will greatly shorten the life of the display. The only way to recover your display is to replace the VFD the tube itself.
