I just replaced broken gas valve coils on this dryer...It now will ignite, however the flame only stays lit for about five seconds before going out...This process repeats itself roughly every 30-45 seconds with the same result...This causes the dryer to not be as hot as it should be...I saw on another site that this problem may be caused by an air flow problem and i believe that the duct connected to the dryer is of the flexible foil type which isn't the best type...For years we had the plastic duct connected to it and I see lint has accumulated inside the dryer...Are there any other possible causes of this problem...I will soon try to clean any lint that may have accumulated in the dryer/duct system...Please advise me ASAP.

Thanks,

Take the dryer apart and clean the air dusts inside and the blower housing. Make sure the blower wheel is not broken or worn out. Disconnect the vent hose from the dryer and run it without this hose. Post the results.

Does the blower wheel circulate the hot air into the tumbler of the dryer???...If so, I don't believe that is the problem because the is some warm air in the dryer when I run it...It just doesn't get as hot as it should...I think based on what you said that the might be a lint blockage somewhere...The lint trap is pretty beat up (this dryer is about 18 yrs. old)...Is using a vacuum to clean out the ducts o.k.???

Thanks for your help!!!

Very possible there is insufficient air flow through the dryer which causing overheating and, as the result, the high limit thermostat shuts off the flame. One of possibilities is a blower wheel sliding around the motor shaft.

If there are no any restrictions found then possible the high limit thermostat has gone bad.

A vacuum is good.

Jason,

Besides the blower wheel there are two drum support rollers and the idler pulley in this dryer. All of them can cause an excessive noise.

I can't really tell whether its the roller wheel or the pulley...How would I go about replacing both of them?...and would I also have to replace the belt that goes around the drum as well?

Thanks

The best way to save money is to take the dryer apart, inspect all parts and order the parts which are worn out. Nobody can tell you exactly what has to be replaced without seeing it.
