Replacing Kitchen Aid (Whirlpool) gas valve coils (Solenoid Kit)

My dryer does not heat. The igniter glows for a few seconds and then goes out. I ordered the gas valve coils (Solenoid Kit), but was informed it does not come with directions.
1. I think I need to remove the drum. Does this only involve removing the belt from the pulley?
2. Do I need to shut off the gas valve? If so, can I shut off the valve outside the dryer that is on the basement wall? If I need to shut off the valve inside the dryer, I need instructions as to what it looks like, where it is and how to turn it, including what tool to use. Do I need to test for gas leak when I turn it back on?
3. Please provide directions for accessing, removing and replacing the solenoids. I prefer to remove as few parts and screws as necessary. Hopefully, I won’t need to touch the igniter, since that gray area is so sensitive. Do the Solenoids simply pull out and push in by hand or do I need to use a needle nose pliers?
Thanks for the assistance.
