This machine works except there is no heat. It is an electric dryer how can I tell if it is the element or thermostat?

Hi Bryan K
You will need to release two clips between the top and the front at each end by inserting a screw driver or putty knife. The top will flip up and you can then take off the front. You can then test your fuses and thermostats for continuity, and if they check out you will need to remove the drum (first release the belt, probably from a service panel in the back) and this will give you access to the element. Test it for resistance (12 to 20 ohms) and continuity.
Before you do all this, check to see that you have 120 volts to each side of the connection block. Then unplug the machine to do the above.
