Yesterday the refrigerator was very warm. I checked the freezer and that seemed cold. I cleaned condenser thinking it was just a dust buildup. Cool air is coming into the refrigerator on the bottom left, but the top shelf is pretty warm, currently 51 degrees. The condenser motor and fan are running. Should I disconnect from power and let it sit for a while? Maybe there is an ice buildup somewhere.

The first thing I would recommend is perform the test as described in the attached service manual (page 44) and follow all instructions.

- Here are the break down diagrams for the GE refrigerator Model GSS25JFMBWW

Good luck.

Hi Gene,

I checked the test procedure in the manual but it does not match my control knobs on my refrigerator. Is there a different manual or a different way of running the test.
Thanks,
Gene

I should clarify. I'm trying to put the system into self diagnostics but the manual is refering to a digital temp control panel.

Removed the freezer back cover and saw the evaporator completely frozen solid. I performed the voltage test for the def heater, no voltage at main board connections to def heater. Performed the resistance test on the thermistor test and they seemed good. I will wait until the ice melts tomorrow and see what happens.

Check the defrost thermostat while the evaporator is frozen.

Defrost thermostat measured about 2.5 volts.
I let the unit thaw out and it is running perfect for 24 hours. I still don't know what caused the problem or if it will come back.
Thanks,

If it will come back, I would recommend to disconnect the defrost thermostat while it's still frozen and check continuity across the thermostat wires.

Replace the defrost thermostat if it's open.
