this the second time we are replacing the heat defroster my concerns are 1-why this part has such a short life 2-should we replace it or think about a new refrigator 3-is it something i can do myself

You can probably do it yourself, but are you sure it's bad. If your defrost system isn't working it could also be the defrost thermostat or the motherboard
