Washer fills then stops running. I had the drain pump off twice. The first time it had a quarter in it, I don't know if it damaged it. It then filled and stopped again. I took the pump out again. It filled and stopped. I then drained the pump to get the door opened. I have removed the door switch and it checks that the door button switch is working. Does this sound more like the pump or the door switch is bad. Or is there something else I should check?

This sounds like an electronics problem. Under the top or inside the lower service panel you should find the tech notes that will tell you how to put it into diagnostic mode and generate some error codes. Focus on the main control unit.
