Last night I placed a loat in the old Admiral. Set the timer and walked away. Returned later to find that the cloths were wet and the dryer had stopped. The timer knob was at the end of the full time. I reset the timer and pressed it in. The buzzer buzzed, then a POP! and the smell of burning wire. I unplugged the dryer. Just to be safe, and turned the rafters of my sun room into an old west laundry.
I haven't opened the back yet. So I'm not 100% sure it is the timer. However I had it open a month ago and blew everything out with the air compressor.

So my question is... Replace the timer or look for something else like the motor? Cash has been tight since my gal lost her job, so I would prefer things be cheep.

A model number may help others help you.

Start at the rear access cover for the terminal strip perhaps the problem is there.
If all looks OK then open it up to find out what popped with luck you will be able to find it visually.

Even if you find a part that needs replacing I would check other things like the belt, idler wheel, front support glides, rear drum support rollers etc. for wear.
This should give you an idea of what is needed to overhaul the unit as it may niot be worth fixing.

When I had it open for cleaning I checked the belt, and turn of the motor. The drum is well balanced so I don't think there is anything wrong there.

Model is Admiral ADE7000AYW
It says Heavy Duty / Super Capacity Plus / Quiet Pack / Dryer Rack on the front.
