My Admiral electric dryer starts to run when the "push to start" button is pushed but stops 5-6 seconds later and wont try to start again until about
a minute later. Exactly like a circuit breaker would do. My ohmmeter shows
continuity at "thermal cutoff" and "high limit thermostat" .
Any help would really be appreciated.

When you start the machine do you hear a hum or buzzing sound before it starts? Your issue sounds like your motors windings are going bad. If you hear these sounds or it takes a couple seconds holding the button to start you likely need to replace the motor. Whirlpool 279827 Dryer Drive Motor - AppliancePartsPros.com
