The dryer trips the breaker when we try to turn it on. I reset the breaker and the dryer made a hum for a couple seconds and then again tripped the breaker. Where do I begin troubleshooting? (The drum rolls freely).

It is possible your breaker is bad, so I would change it out, but it really sounds like the motor has failed, in which case given the age of the machine I think it is time to visit Mr. New Dryer Store.

Thanks for your help. We figured it to be around 24 years old, and bought another today.
