My dryer temperature is always hot. Can't get it to be warm or cool. From the exploded diagram, it looks like the right part is 696321, which apparently is no longer available. Would the 3115922 thermostat be an acceptable substitute?

Mike, the temperature switch (696321) is the least likeliest problem. Have you done any other checks, yet ? You could have a clogged/restricted vent, and the dryer will over heat, and usually will take a lot longer to dry, as well. Or you may have a weak hi limit or regulating thermostat, that could cause the dryer to bypass the hgh, medium, or low temperature setting on the switch. Part number: AP3094085
Part number: AP3115922
There is only a 10 degree differrence in the temperatures, low 130 dgrs. med 140 dgrs., and hi being 150 dgrs(average). If you haven't yet, you may want to disconnect the exhaust vent from the back of the dryer and do a temperature check of the exhaust temperatures on each temp. setting. Good Luck, :) :) :)
