Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LE5800XMN1
Main Symptom: Overheats
What happens & when:
First time noticed top of dryer was too hot to touch. Pipe to outside too hot also. Pulled out lint screen and wasps flew into room. Lint screen was clean. Figure wasps probably built nest blocking outlet. Turned dryer off. would inspect later before using again
Second time wife notice hot smell next day. Top of dryer too hot to touch. Outlet pipe was cool. Dryer had not been turned on and was not running. I unplugged power cord. Power cord was very warm.
After it cooled down I tried to replicate problem on the setting it was on and other settings w/out starting.
I next put work shirts in and started dryer. Did not overheat at any setting.
I removed top of cabinet but saw nothing wrong. Removed controls back shield and bottom rear cover and outlet pipe. Did not see any debris or anything contacting wiring or bad wires.
Today I plugged it in and it began getting hot before pressing the start button. unplugged to cool down. if the timer is in the off position, dryer does not produce heat before pressing start. If the timer is turned to selection but start button has not been pressed, the dryer produces heat.
