Timer for GE double oven

My analog clock/timer died on my GE double built-in oven. I ordered the replacement part WB19X10006 and installed it. The only problem I have is that the bottom oven will no longer clean. The SET light comes on; the CLEANING light comes on. But TEMP light does not come on; LOCKED does not come on; and oven never starts heating. The top oven works as it should. Is there a setting on the new part that has not been addressed for a built-in double oven??? Can anyone help me get my appliance back in the A1 condition it was in before the clock went out?

Does this oven work in a timed cook mode?

If it does not, then possible a miswiring for the lower oven.

Gene.

Gene, Thank you for your prompt reply.

The oven DOES work in timed mode.

Check the door latch and switches on the door latch.

Gene.

Latch and door checked and are fine. By the way, this oven worked fine in all modes including self-cleaning prior to installation of this part.

In such situation possible you have the new clock defective.
You have to contact the place where you purchased from for a warranty replacement.

Gene.

Gene,
Thank you for all of your responses. I have requested a new part and if it works, that will tell us that the 1st one I received is defective and I will be mailing that one back

when you will install the new one, be very careful with wires and follow the installation instructions step by step.

The WB19X1006 Digital Electronic Timer replaced the following: WB19X0142, WB19X5269, WB19X5231, WB19X5282, and WB19X5223. Based on that, it seems that this part would NOT be the replacement for your part. My oven is GE Model JKP36. As you saw by the threads, we did receive another part to determine if the first one was defective. It did the same thing - everything works EXCEPT cleaning the bottom oven. I finally called GE repair and a repair technician came out and spent 2 days - and could not solve the problem. This oven is 22 years old; well, the technicians have never seen this model nor the inner workings of it!!! He did consult a retired expert, who gave him a few suggestions, but to no avail. I tell you this because you may run into the same problem as far as the age of the technicians are today and the changes made in the product. Good Luck

carobe,

I’m replacing the old mechanical timer in my single GE wall oven with the WB19X10006 digital timer. I was concerned that the old timer has connections to only 3 of the 5 terminals: L1, Output 1, and neutral. L2 and Output 2 have no connections. Based on your post, I’m wondering if L2 and Output 2 are for the second oven.

Gene: any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

If you can post pictures of the old and new clocks and all available diagrams and instructions, it might help for more accurate advise.

Gene.

Yes, please post pics, especially the instructions. I have replaced a number of these clocks, and when I had problems, it was a simple wire misplacement.

Here are the pictures:
The current mechanical timer, the new digital timer, and the instructions.

I believe the current connection has the pink and red wires on terminal 1(L1), the white wires on terminal 5 (N), and the orange wire on terminal 2 (Output 1). According to the instructions, these would connect on the new timer to terminals 1, 5, and 2 (respectively).

My assuption is that L2 and Output 2 would be used for the second oven, if I had one.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for your help.

Tom

Hi Tom,

You were absolutely right.

Gene.

Thanks for the consult Gene! The new timer works fine.

It will be very nice to have the self-clean function back.

Is your oven a single or double?

If it’s double, does the lower oven has self clean? Did it work with the old timer?

Gene.

Just the single oven for me. That’s what had me confused about the unused terminals. It all makes sense now.

And the clock works! Much nicer than the electrical tape over the frozen time.

Thanks again,
Tom

I’m Deborah and I’m new here. I found this site while searching to see if a replacement timer-clock is available for my GE self-cleaning double oven JKP36 which was put in my home in 1979. The ovens work perfectly, the self-cleaning works perfectly…I need the clock & timer to work.

After reading the posts here, I’m a little confused. Has a replacement clock-timer model number been established that will correct the clock-timer not working and both ovens will still self-clean? I’d love to have this repaired!
Thanks!
Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Can you describe more specifically how did you set the self clean cycle and what did you see on the oven clock during this cycle?

What did you mean when you said: “I need the clock & timer to work”?

Gene.

Thanks so much for your reply!

The timer & clock that do not work at all are the timer that I’d use to time food when it was baking and the clock being the regular mechanical clock on the oven unit located beside the timer.

Because the clock/timer unit doesn’t work, I now must use another timepiece to keep up with how long the self-cleaning process is taking and turn it off myself rather than the oven doing it automatically.

If I activate the top self-cleaning switch (pull it out) and leave the bottom self cleaning switch alone (don’t pull it out), I can self-clean the units.
However, I must keep track of the amount of time it is working and turn it off myself.

I’m okay with self-cleaning the ovens this way (but prefer the original method), but I’d love to have the timer/clock working again for everyday use!

I called the GE company parts line yesterday and was told that for my unit I would need the WB19X5231 part that they no longer make. And from this forum, I read thatthe WB19X10006 corrected the clock/timer, but the bottom oven would no longer work in the self-cleaning mode. I think I understood that correctly. I tried to follow it on the forum. I hope that you may have a solution.

Thank you again!
Deborah
