I have replaced the soap dispenser drawer latch twice and it keeps breaking the hook off of the end. It is plastic and does not seem to have to much spring tension on the drawer pusher assembly but what is to strong for a plastic hook.
Contact Electrolux. They have had a number of complaints about this problem. They should offer to send you a repair bulletin along with the required parts (which is another latch and a couple soft plastic spacers.)
The latch is breaking due to the top being misaligned and pushed too far forward thereby stressing the latch. You will have to remove the top cover of the washer, stick the self adhesive spacers along the back edge of the washer frame, then replace the cover, and replace the latch.
I was a little confused about the directions at first. But when it states to place the spacers âinside the screw holesâ they mean to the left and right of the exsisting holes on the washer frame. Not inside the hole like youâre going to screw back into the spacer.
Itâs a very simple repair. Just a matter of removing a couple screws.
Samsmith (or anyone): (1) how do I remove the top cover and (2) where on the frame do I place the spacers?
My Electrolux model is EWFLW65H; but itâs cabinet and dispenser drawer are identical to Papagerrybrownâs EIFLW55H.
Electrolux sent me the âLatch Kitâ (part# 137146000). It contained a new latch and two plastic spacers; but no instructions telling me what to do with the spacers. They refuse to send me a copy of the repair service bulletin, claiming liability. Samsmith, how were you able to get a copy?
Since the latch on my washer first broke 9 months after my 1-year warranty for repairs had expired, Electrolux also refuses to cover having the spacers installed by a factory-authorized service provider.
papagerrybrown, I believe you made an error when typing the model ID of your washer. Probably should be âEIFLWâŚâ instead of âE1FLWâŚâ. (capitol i for the 2nd character, instead of the number 1)

Samsmith, a big success! Many, many thanks! With my model# and the LN# you gave, Sears Parts & Service found the bulletin easily and printed me a copy. Installing the spacers was simple, just as you had written in your first post. I probably could have gotten by without the bulletin; but having it, gave me assurance that I was doing it correctly. By the way, this forum & thread was the only reference to the problem that I could find anywhere.
In case anyone else needs it, the Electrolux bulletin is called âSERVICE FLASH LN0903, Dispenser Drawer Will Not Remain In The Closed Positionâ. It applies to these 7 Electrolux (front-load) washers: EIFLW55HIW, EIFLW55HMB, EIFLW55IKG, EIFLW55IRR, EWFLW65HIW, EWFLW65HSS, EWFLW65HTS, EWFLW65IMB, and EWFLW65IRR. For parts, ask Electrolux to send you a âLatch Kitâ, part# 137146000.
I have the same problem. The latch was easy to replace but there is no instructions on what to do with the spacers. Could someone email me them please? My email is jbk@piasystems.com. Thanks.
jbkulp, Iâve attached the first page of Service Flash LN0903. It tells how to remove the top panel, where to place the spacers, etc.. (The other 3 pages tell only how to install the latch itself.) bulletin.jpg (63.2 KB)
I registered on this site just so I could thank thank-you for posting this info, especially the bulletins and instructions on placing the spacers. I am the wife of a deployed soldier with 5 kids. Everything seems to break when dad is gone, but we averted laundry disaster with your help. Electrolux was super quick getting us the parts, but not so helpful with instructions. Thanks again!!!
Electrolux is sending the parts (including a new latch). Would it be possible to also get the first 3 pages that tell how to replace the latch?
Iâve been to three repair shops today and none of them have the latch on any diagrams. All three repair shops told me I had to order the complete door to get the parts needed at a price of $60. I found this post, just now called Electrolux and my parts are on the way for free and will be here on Wed. Thanks everyone BTY I know the kit number is listed in the bulletin but here if is anyway. The kit number is 137146000 and itâs listed at $6.50
Have an Electrolux EWFLW65HIW washer. When the unit was moved the soap dispenser was damaged. Before it was damaged, if the âbuttonâ was pressed, the drawer popped open. Today, the service technician replaced the whole drawer unit (said the whole thing had to be replaced) but the drawer still doesnât pop open. We have to manually pull it open. He couldnât find any spring on the schematic and doesnât know how to fix it further. What are we missing? Thanks.
As you close the drawer, a small flange on the drawer pushes against a spring-loaded plunger thatâs part of the housing, not the drawer. Iâve circled the flange and the plunger on the attached photos.
I donât know if the plunger is available as a separate part; but a replacement for the complete housing is available from a number of parts dealers, at prices ranging from $82 to $94 (plus shipping). Find it, by searching for part number 137108710 or 137108700.
Incidentally, my washer is the same model as yours ([model]EWFLW65HIW[/model]). drawer.jpg (65.1 KB) housing inside.jpg (66.6 KB)
Thank you so much for posting this information! Weâve been living with packaging tape to hold the drawer closed for at least a year now. Ten minutes after I found this thread, our latch kit is on its way to us.
If you call, be sure to reference Service Flash LN0903, in case they try to say that there havenât been any recalls, etc.
petruncola, Iâve attached all 4 pages. (If this copy too fuzzy, let me know and Iâll try one with a higher resolution.) Good luck with the repair Robby
In figure 9 of the Service Flash, it says to attach the spring to the hole in the drawer - which one? The picture is too fuzzy, and I canât figure it out.
I see what you mean about the picture being too fuzzy. Iâve attached a snapshot of my drawer (with its front cover removed. It shows the hole and spring more clearly; but let me know if you need any additional photos. Good luck with the repair. drawer.jpg (57.9 KB)
