I have this mircrowave GE SpaceMaker JVM1631WJ03 for 2.5 years. Recently when I open the door, it may turns on the light, turns the turntable, and I hear the sound like the microwave runs when the door is close. I have to close the door and select Clear/Off to turn it off.
Thanks a lot for your advice. I have never opened a microwave for repair. Do you think a novice can replace this switch ? Is there a diagram for this microwave so that I can start with ?
If you know major safety rules how to work with electrical appliances and you have a simple ohmmeter - you can do it. The diagram should be behind the top grille on the left side or inside the control panel.
Gene, thanks again for your help. I have one more question so that I can order all the parts at one time, if I need more than one.
Besides the problem that I described, now when I close the door, it is difficult to make it start. With the door closed, I add minutes and press Start. The light turn on but the turntable does not run and I do not hear the normal sound when it runs properly. I have to open and close many times to make it start. Is this also caused by the bad switch or something else ?
I have a GE profile GV936826S 4//1999. Jsut last night I noticed that when I open the door the light and fan come on and the turn table moves. I am scared that the microwaves are also being emitted? Are they? How do I repair it?
Moist likely the problem is a bad secondary interlock switch. The model number you posted does not come up and I’m not able to give you more accurate advice.
Can a competent handy man repair an interlock switch if I order it from GE or had I best get an appliance repair guy to come out? What’s my most cost effective way to get this repaired or, considering my microwave is 10 years old, should:) I get a new one?
The switch itself is very inexpensive and you can save a lot if you do it yourself. This part not too difficult to replace yourself, but I’m not able to give you any instructions because the model number you posted does not come up. You can use an after market switch which works perfect.
Remove the top grill and open the control panel. The switches are on the left side, mounted on the frame (#26 on the diagram). Most likely the problem is a bad bottom switch. You can use the OEM switch or the after market switch I posted earlier.
I have a GE Profile JTP95BA1. A couple months ago, it started having a failure symptom. Whenever I opened the door, the turn table motor was not off, but continuous rotated. This week, whenever I press “start”, it will have NO heat at all if the tray not rotated, but OK if the tray rotated. Please help me to pinpoint the failed component to fix it. Thanks,
Once again thank you for your advices. I checked the relays on the control board. They are ok. I checked the switches of the interlock and found out the main switch broken. Actually all switches are the same. They just cut the un-used connector fordifferent configuration of normal-open(N.O.) or normal-closed(N.C.)
Having the same problem with a GE jvm1640wb002. What part do I replace and any tips on how to do it? Also, I can live with this since I’m in the planning stages of redoing the kitchen, if this poses no health risk, i.e. it’s just running the fan and TT, and not emitting MV, is this true?
Thxs Gene. I ordered the switch and did the old tin foil test to verify if the MV was emitting microwaves while this was happening and it appears that it is not.
