Changing the lower switched fixed it!
A couple of notes from the install:
There are 3 switches, and the one I replaced was the bottom switch. The
top and bottom switch are the same switch, the middle is a door monitor switch and is a different part number. Either switch will fit in the latch housing assembly, so make sure you replace the correct switch. At first I replaced the middle switch and this did not fix the problem. I did not bother to look at the parts diagram to realize this was not the switch that I needed to replace.
I had to removed the entire latch assembly to replace the switch. No big deal just 2 screws
It’s not obvious on how to remove the switch from the latch body. Just trying to pull it out does not work. You have to pry up on a little tab while pulling the switch out.
.5 total repair time, which would of gone faster if I had not replaced the wrong switch.
The deffective switch plunger lost it’s “springy-ness” and was the reason the switch failed. Ten years and 3 kids worth of warming baby formula bottles really took a toll on it.
Thxs again Gene
Thank you for sharing your diagnosis and repair with us. Happy Holidays and good luck with your microwave.

I am recently having this problem and came across this site. MW works fine, but goes on when door is open. I will be ordering new door switches to hopefully solve this problem. I have a few questions:
Should I replace all door switches?
Anything else worth replacing while I have this apart?
History: Unit is 14 ys old. Stopped working 2X in past. Both times, unit had power but keypad not responding. Both times, took out unit and manually made sure connections were tight. Unit worked fine for about 3 ys each time. We tend to open door before time is up and probably slam door too hard.
Thanks
I need to replace all the door switches in my GE profile microwave as the fan goes on and turntable turns when I OPEN the door. I want to replace all door switches becasue I replaced one before, but shortly after it started doing it again. Can you please tell me all the generic doorswitch part numebrs GE JE1660WA03. It’s 10 years old. I read the thread below - do you think it’s emitting MV? What’s the tin foil test?
Thank you Gene!!!

Claudia,
There are three switches in your microwave and you can use the instructions posted earlier by joeba.

The original parts are not expensive and I would not use aftermarket parts in such situation.
If you would like you can use AP4351467instead of AP2024338 and AP5634519instead of AP2024337

My microwave je1540wv002 recently started to have the same problem and came across this site. Microwave works fine but light on and turntable turns when door is open. Please advise which parts # to replace.
Any easy fix besides taking it in? Not handy with electronics.
Hi.
All you need is a basic skills and common sense to replace the door switch. Provide the complete model number so I can get you the part number.
Simon.
Thanks Simon!

Hi.
Remove the cover and perform the continuity test at the upper and lower door switches (monitor and door sensing). With door open both switches should reed no continuity. with door closed - continuity. If the switches are good - replace the control board.

Thank you. Post the results.

Remove what cover? The panel with the buttons? Can I assume that when I remove the ‘cover’ that it will be obvious how to ‘perform continuity test’. Again, I am not handy with this kind of thing.
Hi.
The “cover” is #1200 on the diagram if you open it.
To check the continuity you need a multimeter.

Ah yes a multimeter, I have dozens of them. Going to the repair shop now, thanks!
I have recently had the same problem, and found this thread. We have a GE PT970S. At first, we noticed the turntable would turn when the door was opened. This lasted a few weeks, and then we noticed the turntable would stop turning and nothing would heat, but sporadically, the turntable would start again and then it heated food fine. Now, the turntable no longer spins and if I check it, the motor seems to be turning freely (there is not the normal motor sound you should hear if you spin it by hand). I checked the coupler, and it looks fine. I am curious:
THANKS!!!
I have a GE Spacemaker XL microwave (Model JVM1350AW002), and I have similar problem. Recently I noticed that when I opened the door the light and fan came on however the turn table didn’t not move. I tested it with a cup of water and it didn’t heat when door is open. Other than that, it works fine. What do you think the problem might be and how to repair it? Thanks.
