GE Gas Oven won't bake or broil

This is a free-standing gas range/oven. The range burners all work, but today the oven won’t do anything (bake or broil). I need some guidance to figure out where to start. Thermostat? Safety Valve? Igniter?

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated!!

when you turn on the bake does the glow bar glow? same with the broil? let’s start there

No. Nothing happens. Turned to bake = nothing; Turned to broil = nothing. :frowning:

Just a little more info: this oven has only one igniter / glow bar; the bake and broil functions out of the same buner. In reading this and other forums, it seems that some GE’s have two different igniter / glow bars.

Anyone have any suggestions? I just want to replace the broken item on this oven and it appears that the issue may be with one of three things: 1) Thermostat (could be, b/c it appears to be the switch that controls the oven/broiler operation and the ignitor is not doing anything)
2) Safety Valve (not likely from what I can figure)
3) Ignitor (most likely? as it simply does not glow or show any signs of life)

I guess it says something about our eating / cooking habits that we are able to be OK without our oven working —

Take a ohms reading of the glowbar, the wire ends will be behind the bottom drawer at the safety valve, post results

It took awhile, but I finally got an Ohms reading…it is zero. I assume that means that the igniter/glowbar is shot?

edit: the Ohm reading was actually “nothing” or infinity, not zero. :o

Yes, you are right. The igniter is bad and has to be replaced.

Guys, thanks for the help; ignitor is in and oven is working

We’re glad you were able to fix it.
