Model Number: JGBC18EV2WW Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
Well, this is not over ...
Like I posted earlier, the ignitor was in (GE Gas Oven won't bake or broil...), and everything was working, now not so much. The wife turned on the oven the other night, and says that a few minutes later she "heard something blow-up" (I was working, so I was not home at the time). Well when it "blew-up" it tripped a breaker. I got home, and tested the ignitor again ... nothing (infinity), also, I found a couple of pieces of the ignitor coil in the bottom of the broiler drawer, so it did indeed "blow-up". The new ignitor is now toast, but my question is what could have happened to cause the new ignitor to fail so violently? The first ignitor just sort of stopped working, so before I simply replace the ignitor again, I am wondering if I should look at something else as well (so as not to "blow-up" the second new ignitor) ![]() Here are some pictures of the failed ignitor, before I removed it: does everything look OK to you guys? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I never seen such things nor I've heard about it. At this point I believe it's not safe to go further with DIY repair. I would recommend to call a professional to check and diagnose this product.

Gene, I tend to agree, but humor me for a second. Can you think of anything (like the first igniter having a hairline crack for instance) that would cause the igniter to fail and trip a breaker?

It is possible as well as it was shook and damaged at time of installation. The major thing makes me worrying is tripped breaker. I'm afraid of possible damage to the gas safety valve too. So do not risk. It's better to pay than sorry.
