My GE fridge has been making a clicking sound for about a month. I notice the fan in the freezer will start and stop when it clicks until it will finally come on. The water/ice dispenser is also not working and when you hit it the lights on front will go out.
It has been working on and off but then last night it started making rapid clicking sounds and now it is silent will not cool in the fridge or freezer at all.
Looking through the forums I am trying to figure out if it just sounds like the motherboard or if the compressor might also be bad. Thanks for any help.
It’s located at the rear of the fridge under the metal plate.
Unplug the unit before doing anything and read the instructions, you may need to make some adjustments.
Got the part and took maybe 10 mins to install it. Now everything works great! Even my water dispenser that had stopped working before the rest of the fridge is now dispensing again.
Check the continuity between three compressor’s contacts and from one of them to the ground. If you read the resistance between the contacts and no continuity to the ground you may need to replace the start components
Fridge has been clicking for at least a month. At first I couldn’t figure out where in the kitchen the noise was coming from (clicking was very intermittent).
This evening I got home and fridge is 45’F and bottom freezer is 33’F.
I unplugged the fridge then replugged it back in. Now I can hear the clicking and temps are very slowly going down.
I would prefer to try and fix this myself before calling a serviceman. Should I start with replacing the Start Capacitor? What are your suggestions. Also, the previous post I am referencing mentions a specific part/part number. is this what I should order? What is the difference between that part (AP4300623) and a Run Capacitor, which is significantly less expensive (part AP2071964)?
there is a way to confirm if the compressor is bad, i have had the control board be the problem and not the start components. there is 2 wires going to the compressor, make a jumper cord - any 120v electric cord is fine - and pleasedont try this if you have no electrical experience !! i assume no liability for harm to you or the refrigerator ! … connect the jumper cord to the 2 power wires of the compressor - plug it in, if it good, it should start. if it didnt connected to the refrigerator, you have problems with the controls. hope this helps.
