Gas dryer

Gas dryer will ignite usually at start up but when it goes into cool down mode? it won’t ignite again. You can see the ignitor glow but not light. It will take 2 or 3 cycles on the highest setting to dry clothes. I just joined the forum today and several other people have a problem with the coil or gas valve coil. This problem started after I cleaned out the lint in the back of the dryer. ??? Help is greatly appreciated.

This is one of the most common problems with gas dryers. The gas valve coils loosing their capacity with heat.

how do you test the coil? Do you check for continuity or what? Can you remove it without breaking it in the process? I can still use it even though it takes two to three cycles to dry clothes.

You can not test them in such situation. Just replace.

You can find some useful information in one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dryer-repair/39838-how-open-dryer-replace-coils-gas-valve.html

Dear Gene,

Thanks for your advice, I will let you know if that takes care of the problem. I do have one question before I order the coil kit, I checked the part number out at searspartsdirect.com and didn’t get a match. Sears is telling me the number is 12001349. Can I get a number off the coil itself or is the part number AP3094251 work with several units? Thanks for all your help. Joe

The part number 12001349 is old Maytag part number. Whirlpool bought Maytag last year and changed all Maytag part numbers. Whirlpool part number for the coil kit 279834 is Appliance Parts Pros AP3094251.
This coil kit will work with all gas dryers.
