Dryer Drum Isnt turning

I was wondering what could be wrong with my dryer. The tub quit turning this evening. And would it be worth repairing? Price wise?

Hi,

If you can still hear the motor running, but the drum just does not turn on it’s own anymore then you need a new belt.

How would I change the belt on Whirlpool Estate Dryer (EED4300TQ)? I have removed the back, but could not find anything back there. Is there some type of manual I can get to do this?

yank the filter out the top
remove the 2 screws holding the filter housing to the top.
pop the top using putty knife.
remove crews from inside front panel.
Raise up on front panel and remove.
remove the drum and inspect the idler and wheels
replace all defective parts. make sure the belt is not twisted.
Insert the idler into the floor and raise it up so that you can loop the belt onto the motor pulley. replace the front and snap down the top. Easy fix.

how did you repair? the same as the whirlpool??

I too have an estate, did the directions to the whirlpool work for you?
thank you

sorry to be a pest, is there a manual (online) somewhere?
thank you

thank you the dryer is an estate TGDS840JQ1
i hope tht I can repair this…is this too hard for a female with some mechanical (though very limited) abilities?

An estate is a plain jane whirlpool dryer without all the fancy bells and whistles. My directions above will work:yank the filter out the top
remove the 2 screws holding the filter housing to the top.
pop the top using putty knife.
remove screws from inside front panel.
Raise up on front panel and remove.
remove the drum and inspect the idler and wheels
replace all defective parts. make sure the belt is not twisted.
Insert the idler into the floor and raise it up so that you can loop the belt onto the motor pulley. replace the front and snap down the top. Easy fix.

How do I get the control panle potion of the dryer off to do the rest?
thank you so much. I am excited to try to do this on my own!

Oh my gosh, I made removing the lid much harder than it was. There were two screws on the back side of the control portion that weren’t allowing meto lift it…I got it off and it was indeed the belt…now I need to figure out howto put the new belt in…I am so excited that I might actually be able to do this…any words of wisdom for belt replacement. Anything (other than grooved side down, that I ought to look for or be careful of. THank you again for helping me through this project…

Just to add my 2 cents to SublimeMasterJW complete instructions following you’ll see the belt diagram (front view).

wow…thank you so much. the visual helps tremendously. I have ordered the belt and it should be here by weeks end. Hopefully saturday or sunday I’ll have my dryer up and running again. I can’t thank you all enough for your help and patience…not to mention saving me a lot of money.

cute…too bad you are on the other side of the country…I’d buy you dinner

sorry…I am back…I am having trouble with the idler. from what I am reading there should be a wheel on it but mine doesn’t. there is like a 1/2 circle metal. I see how the belt goes around the pully how do I route it around this idler arm? (it is welded on both sides) do I kind of fold the belt and push the loop though and then take that loop around the pully? (this is the only moving part of this assebmly)…I hope someone understands what I am saying…thank you

Hi,

Your idler is like the one on the left in this photo?
