Bosch Dishwasher Sap Tray doesn't pop open

I have a Bosch dishwasher that I purchased four years ago. The soap tray dispenser is not popping open during the cycle. I don’t know if I need a new spring, or I need to replace the whole tray. The item # is SHU33A02UC
How do I fix this?

Where do I find the model number? Is it 1150-C3

Gene.

I found this forum during a search because I have the same problem: my Bosch dishwasher is about five years old. Over the past few months, the soap door sometimes was not opening. At first it was every once in a while, but has gotten worse and now it rarely opens at all. If I manually press the release it pops open and slides to the side, so I don’t think the spring is the problem. Also, I can’t remember the last time I had to refill the rinse aid dispenser. I used to have to fill it every few weeks, but it has been at least two months now since the “fill” message has displayed. Since the rinse aid and soap dispensers are part of the same unit, I’m wondering if this is an electrical problem.

In order to provide most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the dishwasher. Post it as a new thread, please.

I also have the same problem. My model number is SHU66C07. The door will stay shut when you close it and will release when the blue button is manually pressed. Is there any way to fix this without having to replace the entire soap dispenser?

I am having the same problem as several others with the soap dispenser. I dont mind buying another one ($56) but upon looking at it, it is not clear how to remove and replace. Can anybody be of help in this regard? Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill,

You can find the instructions in one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dishwasher-repair/4038-bosch-detergent-dispenser.html

My husband called Bosch. Their solution was to run Jet Dry Cleaner through the empty washer (follow directions on the bottle) at least twice.

The Jet Dry Cleaner removes hard water deposits.

I followed their instructions, bought two bottles, ran the hottest cycle twice and now my soap dispenser seems to be working.

I ran one load with the dispenser open and the other load with the dispenser closed.

We purchased our bosch in March and occasionally, the dispenser has wet detergent left in it. Comments on another website suggested making sure that the dispenser cup is completely dry and that nothing is blocking the door from opening or the upper wash arm from spinning. I am going to try both of these approaches but based upon this thread I am wondering whether I should be calling a technician out while it is still under warranty.

Thoughts?

Thanks

It’s always better to call them while the unit is still under warranty than feel sorry.

Gene, I have a SHU66C05UC/14.
My soap dispenser won’t open, either. I have cleaned it, inspected it. It slides to close and locks nicely. When I pop the blue tap with my finger, it cleanly snaps open and up. Nicely. So while I could see replacing the dispenser unit… is the unit really my problem, or is it what actuates the unit to snap open? Today, the technician came while I was at work. The unit is under warranty, and the service fellow talked my wife into 'just pouring the powdered detergent into the machine, and not fixing the dispenser. Whooey! How can one test the actuator?

Bosch recommends to use a tablets instead of powder or liquid detergents. Sounds like this repair guy did not do any diagnosis. Ask your wife if ran the dishwasher at all. You have to call Bosch again and request a different guy or even better - a superviser.

I had a similar problem where the soap packets would turn into a gooey mess and remain stuck in the dispenser.

After much research, I stumbled across a description of the function of the wax motor. Based on the description, I came to the conclusion that the motor/actuator system that operates the soap dispenser, ALSO activates the rinse. OR - another way of saying it would be that the FIRST time the motor is activated, it dispenses soap. The SECOND time the motor is activated, it dispenses rinse.

What would happen if you were to interrupt the dishwasher AFTER the soap was dispensed and BEFORE the rinse.

I ran an empty cycle for about 20 - 30 minutes … interrupted the cycle … then ran it again.

Yeah … the problem was fixed and it has been working flawlessly for about a month now.

BEFORE you spend a bunch of money on parts and the labor to replace the unit, try this “free” approach. I hope it works for you like it did for me.

I tried this and it worked!

Basic tests…find the tech sheet on how to do a diagnostic on bottom panel or behind main panel…Take off front panel…try and manually trigger the door open if you can push the tab and it pops open easily that’s a good sign thus far…ohm the dispenser motor out make sure it’s a complete circuit if it’s not you have a bad soap dispenser and replace the whole thing don’t just try and replace the wax motors on them they break all the time…before you but a new dispenser though test to make sure you have 120v going to it from the main board run a diagnostic mode and it may take up to 7-10 before the dispenser opens up depending on model your tech sheet should tell you…within your time frame on the grid you should have 120v going to the dispenser if you don’t then more then likely you have a main board possibly going out…also to remedy this whole situation and not pay for any parts you can just wait till the water fills up inside the unit and once it does and starts splashing around open the door and add the detergent right in there kablam no parts necessary! If you’d rather pay a tech 100-150 to come out to your house to install this we’d be glad to help lol…
