I just bought a used Whirlpool S/S refrig/Freezer for my garage from a private party who assured me it worked super. It was "running" when I bought it, andtook their word on it. After spending several hours cleaning it up I plugged it in and went to bed expecting it to be chilled down when I got up. The temperture gauges in both the refrigerator and freezer showed 65-70 degrees. I pulled the interior panel off and there was not a hit of frost on the coils. Both the fans are working. I noticed when I have the doors open there is a power draw and the lights dim for a second. I checked the temperture switch with a ohm meter and it seems to be working. The compressor is warm/hot too the touch. Any ideas.

Can you verify if the compressor is running? The power draw you are seeing could be the compressor trying to start, but tripping on the overload. Pay close attention to what the compressor is doing, so you can post results. See if compressor tries to start and cuts off, or see if it running and staying running...Post findings

I have all the same symptoms. In addition I can hear a relay/ switch clicking on and off. At fter click I can feel a faint vibration/ hum in compressor. After about 15-20 seconds. switch activates again and vibration/ humming stops. after about 3-5 minutes, cycle starts again. Compressor is warm/ hot

Thanks abadfish66 for the reply,
When I got home from work I double checked the thermostat and the off showed infin. and cold setting showed O. I checked the ohms between the white/blue/red on the compressor and found blu-red 5 ohms, Blu-White 5 ohms, red-white 2 ohms. I did not test the connections beteen the other two wires on the compressor ( two reds?). When I powered up the refrig. the compressor was quite, then after 28 seconds there was a click sound and a 1-2 second humming sound and then nothing for another 25-32 seconds when it repeated over and over again. The two fans again have power the lights work but nothing else.
