Have GE electric dryer. Although dryer is old, it's had very little use - perhaps equivalent to normal 2-4 yrs use.
I replaced a non-working timer with p/n AP2042652, but I mis-wired it; heard a "pop", circuit breaker tripped, and timer no longer worked. So, recognizing my dumb mistake, I ordered and installed another new timer, same p/n. It worked, but the motor hummed even before timer turned to "start". When timer turned to "Start" the motor and dryer tub turned OKAY, but almost immediately, motor got hot and smelled like an electrical fire. Problem was definitely not in the heaters or blower assembly and I had previously carefully removed all lint. So, problem was definitely confined to motor kit.
Question: Did I likely damage the motor with dumb mistake above? Is there a way to check the motor (240V), or do you think I must replace the motor? I believe it's a "Form T" motor w/WE4X344 Start Switch. Do you think the start switch is okay? I think the correct motor kit replacement is p/n AP4295548, but before I order, do you agree?
Bottom line: do you think replacing motor, but using existing start switch and new timer will solve problem? thanks, Jack:o
