Hi Gene, this forum is very helpful and informative. Thank you I need a new defrost timer for my old GE refrigerator. My question is can I replace a 6hr. timer with a 16hr or 10hr timer? How does the refrigerator determine if the defrost system is working? This unit has a DE alarm system. Thank you for your help

The defrost timers are selacted to give complete defrost under worst case thermal environments. Your timer is a 6 hr, 25 min defrost period, it runs for 6 hours, then defrosts for 25 minutes. You should use a similar timer to prevent problems. If you want a more robust timer, you can stick in a the GE timer WR9X330DS which has a 6 hr defrost period and a 21 minute defrost time. This timer is $10 cheaper, but it will make a whiring sound in the control panel that some object to.

Is it from the 6HR timer? Will a longer defrost timer trigger Defrost Timer?

I believe most of these alarms are triggered by a high refrigerator temperature and not by any defrost timer.
