We have a GE side with an icemaker Model#CAN19. The problem is white translucent floaters in the water after the ice melts. We've installed a fliter to the supply line, installed new lines and feeder tube to the icemaker. Removed the icemaker and throughly cleaned it. Water from the door dispensor is OK. Ice cubes do not look milky to start with. When we let them set in a covered glass overnight, or thaw it in a microwave, we get these floaters that settle to the bottom of the glass. What is it and how do we get rid of it?

We have the exact same problem! Did you ever figure out what was causing it? Thanks!

Well we bought a new Frigidaire Gallery 26cu. This new refrigerator has a filter and I left the filter on the water line leading to it. Also installed new water lines to new frig. Still have floaters! But only after ice melts not with the water from the frig. Going to take water samples down for testing.

Wow! How frustrating! Yes, that is just what is happening with us -- floaters only when the ice melts -- not in the water that comes from the refrigerator. We have a Samsung french door refrigerator. Samsung chat did nothing to shed light on this. If you have it tested and get results, would you mind posting them? If I figure anything out in the meantime, I will post also. Thanks so much for responding!

No, nothing yet. We are still trying to figure it out. It is bugging us! I will post when (if) we figure it out. In the meantime, if anyone out there knows what this is, we'd all be grateful to find out. Thanks!

Add me to the list of people with this issue. We have a Kenmore side by side. I've been thinking that it might be related to our well water,so was surprised to see others with the same issue.

What is it and how do we get rid of it? Check the icetray liner in the icemaker - mine the non-stick surface was actually degrading and pealing off so that small flakes were in my ice. If you find the same thing, replace the tray - somewhere between $40-70.

When you say "icetray in the icemaker," are you referring to the bin hat holds the finished ice cubes, or is there another tray inside the icemaker? We will be so relieved if we can fix this. Thanks again!

Yes, the tray that shapes the ice within the icemaker. I could not believe how bad it looked after all these years of finding flakes in my ice. I was drinking the non-stick lining all that time!
I just received a reply from Gene, a APP volunteer, who emphasized to me that I should not just change out the tray - it is a more complicated repair than it looks in getting the icemaker to work after.
For mine, the icetray was $70 - for $120 I replaced the entire icemaker: it was an easy repair (old one slides out after removing 1 screw) and now I have a new icemaker motor/setup as well. That was what I did even before Gene told me. The $50 extra was worth it in my time (and possible ongoing problems).
