F-28 code began appearing 3 days ago. The washer generally runs fine the next cycle after a quick reset. I followed the recommended procedure in the diagnostic guide, and it appears all harness connections are sound. There don't appear to be any worn or failed components. The machine was purchased in June 2007. After running the diagnostic test, the unit still displays the F-28 code. I believe we need to replace either the CCU or the MCU, but I'm unsure which. Please advise at your convenience.
Thanks.

As you can see from the service manual

https://secured.whirlpoo...61b1ba/$FILE/8178558.pdf

there are not any good diagnostics for determining the problem with the communications error message. That message is the bane of front loading computer controlled machines, and the way it is fixed by a tech is replacing parts until they find the problem.

Try testing the door lock switch, and if it is ok you are probably going to have to replace the MCU on speculation.

Thank you for the reply. It seemed like lots of replacing would be going on as trial and error. Conveniently, the last 3 loads I've washed have been error free; which leads me to believe the door lock is actually the culprit.

Thanks again for the help!

You are probably correct, and the door lock on these models is a weak point. Hope it keeps working, and it if happens again, fiddle with the connection in the door lock as that may be the problem.
