I have general questions on bottom freezer GE profile. The damper door wont stay open, what can be the cause and what should i check for? does the refrigerator thermistor play a role on opening/closing damper door or just the main board? On defrost problem, if i change main board should i also change freezer thermistor?any help will be appreciated.

On these GE electronic refrigerators there is what they call a liner protection mode, which turns on the fans and closes the damper when the door is opened for more than three minutes. I am almost sure the bottom freezers are the same way. The damper will close if the door is opened for more than three minutes. Check the door switch to see if it is operating correctly i.e. does the lights turn on and off when the door closes and opens. The thermistors and the main control the damper. There is a picture on this page to identify thermistors that were prone to failure. It also tells how to test the thermistors for accuracy. GE Refrigerator Repair Guide Thermistors cause more problems than the main boards as regards with a defrost problems but the main board is the only thing that can cause both problems you are having. If you haven’t already done so be sure to check the defrost heater before you replace the main board. Hope this helps!!
