I have a hotpoint electric oven. The baking feature stopped working. I removed the element screws and found the element connected by one wire. The other looked charred, no wire in sight. took sheetmetal guard off back, found other wire in a fried state. What do I do to troubleshoot and/or replace the problem part?

Replace the heat element and fix the wire (attach new terminal).
Gene. The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it.

You may also have to replace the wire. In order to get a good connection to the new connector the wire has to be cut back till you get to nice clean copper. |

r b787w h1ww is the model number. I thought about doing that, but doesn't the fact that the wire shorts out mean that the problem is something more complicated?

Not necessarily What happens is if a connection is loose/pitted or dirty it introduces resistance into the circuit. As current passes through this point heat is generated, this degrades the connection which increases the resistance which increases the heat and so on and so on till finally the connection fails. |

The wires to my heating element have been pulled a little bit to much. Now when looking into the back of the oven one of them looks like the copper is showing and not the end that connects to the heating element but further inside of the oven. Any advice would be appreciated.
