noticed freezer wasn't staying cold over a period of time.....now it is really struggling and the refrigerator does not seem to be as cold either?

Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check how the evaporator is covered with snow. Post the results.

right now my husband is cleaning the coils, we were told that could be the problem if there is dust build up on them. we were not aware that those needed to be cleaned every once in a while.

no it did not. I have beads of water in the freezer on the back wall of the freezer. Is this a defrost problem?
