Whirlpool WP8572717 Capacitor - AppliancePartsPros.com However the rattling noise during agitate mode sounds like something going bad in the motor or more likely transmission. If it is hanging up it may cause that sound in spin mode although the motor should spin just draining before spinning. Where does the rattling sound seem to come from? 1. The bottom. 2. The tub / basket area? Will the machine go into agitate mode now or does it buzz then as well?

I took a look at the motor coupler and it was fine, but didn't go any deeper than that. Before I took it apart, the machine would still go into agitate mode. Edit: When I pulled the coupling, I noted what appeared to be a small amount of oil leaking from around the motor shaft.

The transmission may be binding up not allowing the motor to turn in spin mode. The oil leak might be a sign of trans issue and that may be your noise. Is the oil coming from the drive input shaft on the transmission? If all that is true sounds like time for a new transmission. Not hard to replace especially if you have the motor off. You need a new motor. When they are that bad, the motor will pull more amperage and sometimes not start. I wondered what it would sound like without the pump and know I know.
