sometimes the washer overflows with water when it is filling

Did it overflow when the higher water level was set or it was on different levels?
Post as much information as possible.

Unplug the machine while it is filling. Does the water stop, or does it keep filling? If it continues to fill after you unplug it, replace the water inlet valve.
