I have a kenmore dryer model number 417.88042700 that has been catching items (front top left part of dryer when you open it) usually drawstrings or straps and is tearing clothes. Just today it also started to make a "thumping" noise every time it turns (every second) which I assume has something to do with the former problem as well. Any ideas as to what may be happening? I do feel some front to back movement which I am not sure is normal and think it has to do with some type of gasket. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

A couple of things may be wrong. With the items getting stuck in front between the drum and edge you likely need a new felt glide.

Don't be confused by the name frigidaire as they manufacture this model for sears.
As for the movement of the drum front to back you will also probably need to replace the drum rear bearing and the drum support shaft. See the repair video associated with this link.
