So I bought a matching washer and dryer set, guy says its 1 year old. I brought them home and I find the dryer does not start it just hums. I talked to the guy he asked me to bring back the dryer and so I do we plug it in and it works at his place. I bring it back and it still does not work. Thinking its the house wiring I replaced the 30A dual pull breaker checked the wire its 10/2 and I replaced the plug at the wall. It still does not work so I have researched and checked everything. If I tape the door switch down and push the power button and spin the drum it will kick on and run. I finally pulled the pulley and belt off the motor and it starts up. does anyone think that it is just the motor?

Well I went out today and bought a motor for this dryer cost me 130 dollars with tax. I got it home and installed it and it still does the same thing it hums.

if I tape the door button down and spin the drum while holding down the power button it will click and then start going on its own and I get heat as well. I know I won't be able to return the motor because the old one may have been dinged while trying to take it out.

I am thinking it may be the relay? the timer dial is the only thing I can think of that I can replace.

It worked at his house and a different motor nets the same results??? I suspect something is wrong with your power system. Low voltage to L1 or a bad neutral return. If you are able (and have good neighbors) try the unit at a friends house to verify.

just wanted to close this post I found that it was my electrical the electrician wired it wrong there was 10/2 wire to the plug but he had wired it as two hots and a ground so my meter showed 120 for each hot and 240 across

after looking at it again I found the ground should have been on the neutral so I moved it over and everything worked
