Hi. As per title, Fridge is decently cool (but set at max). I figure its about the temp if I set thermo inside the fridge to about 5 out of 10. Freezer is cool, but not freezing... popsicles melted (also set at max)

Last night

- cleaned all dust etc.

- compressor was very hot, not running

- fan next to compressor was running

- unplugged for about 1 - 1.5 hours and plugged in - can't remember if compressor ran, but don't think so.

This morning,

- found compressor is running, but it is still very very hot to touch

- removed PTC and checked...tiny rattle if I shake really hard, but get good test between side by side pins, so think it is okay

- found continuity on pins of compressor

- put it all back and plugged in, and compressor started immediately

That was about 10 mins ago.

Any thoughts of what might be the issue or what I might try next?

quick update:

So, I heard my compressor go off about 5 mins ago, and the fan next to it also turned off. Still have power in the fridge (lights work).

so now I am totally confused.

Update again.

Compressor and fan came on again after a while and have been on for a for a few hours.

I took the cover off the back of freezer to see frost pattern, and it there is only frost on the inlet tube and a bit on the coil. If I had to estimate, i would say the first 15% of the coil has frost. The rest nothing.

So, sealed system problem? Does this mean gas leak or could it still be bad compressor?

Unfortunately this means sealed system failure compressor is probably good just runs constantly to try to reach a temp it will never get to. Average cost of repair is about 800 bucks or so... might be time for a new one
