My Kitchenaid won't always start. It loses power to the control board. Sometimes slamming the door works OR I just take the inside top panel off, wiggle the ribbon where it connects to the control panel and then it's ok. I have cleaned the contacts with spray but my guess is the ribbon may be damaged. The ribbon doesn't lose total electrical connection because the "clean"
button will light up. When the other control buttons fail to light up the "clean" button, when pushed, starts a short cycle of some sort and then stops. Also the "heavy" indicator light does not work so my guess is that panel is malfunctioning as well OR just isn't getting the proper power supply because of the ribbon. "Note" by pushing the ribbon on just one corner gets the machine to function.

See the attachment for the tech sheet.

You could check the ribbon cable/control panel using a meter (see the tech sheet). Then at least you will know if it is bad.
Sometimes it is a hairline crack in the ribbon cable. You may be able to see this with a magnifying glass.

You could try cleaning both the ribbon cable connector and the connector on the control board using you electronics spray and a toothbrush.

Another possibility is to use tie wraps or whatever to put compressor on the connection so it makes all the time.

And/or bend the connector pins a little.

It will probably difficult to tell if the board connector or the panel connector is causing the problem.
