So my fridge was running non stop and freezing everything in the fresh food side. I replaced the cold control about 5 hours ago and plugged it back in. It is still tunning. Now if I turn the freezer control below one but not not to 0 it will shut off. If I turn the fresh food side Conroe below 1 but not to zero I can hear a noise that sounds like what I think may be the damper closing. I can open the fridge and the freezer and both feel very cold. Why is it still running non stop?

I cannot say. It would be best to measure the compartment temperatures.
The freezer should be 0 to 5 degrees F. The fresh food should be 30 to 40 degrees F.
The unit should cycle while maintaining these temperatures. |

Did what you said and have abthermoater in each compartment and both Temps are right where they should be and it is still rjnning. Could it be the freezer temp control even though it shuts everything off when I reach in and turn it to 1.5. I am stumped on thisnone.

A model number would be helpful.
Since the temperatures are OK then the control thermostat is OK or at least there is no way to check it. You could turn it to 1.5 and see what happens to the temperatures and if the unit starts to cycle correctly.
Sounds like it has to run all the time just to maintain the correct temperatures which it should not have to.
1. If the unit has a condenser/compressor fan. Is it on. It should be.
2. Check/clean the condenser coils under the unit.
3. Check/clean the front kick plate and read cover vents.
4.Check that the e4vaporator/freezer fan is blowing correctly/hard.
5. Check that both door seals are clean.
6. Check the door seal. One way is to get a 2 inch wide strip of paper. Place it between the frame and the seal and then pull it out to check the seal. Do this every 6 to 8 inches. Work your way around both doors. Also make sure that the hinge side of the seal is not grabbing and twisting when the door closes. If this is the case a light coating of vaseline or white lithium grease on this side should solve that problem.
If all the above are OK then there is probably a problem developing in the sealed system of the unit. Remove the cover in the freezer so you can check the evaporator coils. There should be a fairly even coating of frost on them. If there is frost in only one area usually where the freon enters the coils then it is a sealed system problem. This would be an expensive repair as you need a pro and often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.
I am assuming that this is the normal type of compressor and not an inverter type which does run all the time but changes speed. |
