I have an Admiral side-by-side fridge that stopped cooling. The fan was still running but the compressor was clicking every 10-15 seconds & was trying to start. I read in another thread that a relay might fix the issue so I bought a new relay and installed it. The fridge started right up & ran for about 8 hours before it cut off and started clicking again. I also followed the continuity testing instructions in one of the posts & used a multimeter to test the compressor. I got 3, 4, and 7 as the results so I'm assuming that the compressor is okay. I can leave the fridge off for a day or so then plug it in and it'll work for 6-8 hours....then it just cuts off and starts clicking again. Is there something else I can test? I really appreciate any help you can offer!!

A winding test can tell you if a compressor is bad.
It does not tell you that the compressor is good as it may have other internal problems.

If the unit has a condenser/compressor fan check that it is on whenever the compressor is on.

If the compressor uses a capacitor you could try replacing it.
There is no good way to check a capacitor so it is a swap and see.

Thanks for the info! The fan beside the compressor is running when the compressor is on. There's a fan in the freezer that isn't running though. Also I repaced the capacitor when I replaced the relay overload.
Since the compressor runs for 8 hours or so then won't come back on, I'm stumped.

Check the fan in the freezer it should also be on when the compressor is on.
If it is getting 120 volts and not turning it is toast.
I am assuming that it is a AC fan and not a DC fan.

It is probably the cause of the unit running so long re: it is not pulling air through the evaporator coils so the unit is not cooling efficiently.
Perhaps this long run time is overeating the compressor causing your start problem.
