Whirlpool refridgerator is cold but does not freeze

Hi,

Help please! It looks like my freezer stopped working over the weekend. All of these are checked and seems to be working fine: the compressor is warm and vibrating, the two fans are running (one next to the compressor and one in the freezer). I took out the back panel of the freezer and i don't see frost on the evaporator (see picture) but one section was frozen with ice. Does this mean there's a leak in the evaporator? Is there a fix for this or time for a new fridge? Thanks.

Could be or the compressor could be toast.
Does not really matter as both are expensive repairs.

Anything is fixable but the cost would be high and it usually makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.

Thank you for your reply. I looked in the back of the fridge and the compressor seems to be running (warm and vibrating). Do you think it's definitely not other components failure (thermostats or capacitor)? I just want to make sure it's not some cheap fix before throwing it out. Thanks again.

Yes I am sure.

The sealed system is a closed loop so if the compressor is running the evaporator coils should get cold.
