My timer on my dryer stays in one spot and dryer does not heat up. I put it on a different setting and it will move towards off but doesn't shut off and still doesn't heat up. What can it be? How can I possible repair it myself. In my area it is so expensive for a repair call nonetheless the repairs. Thanks

Unplug the unit. Check the heating element with a meter. They are usually around 8 to 12 ohms.
Most unit timers get power through the heating coil in any auto cycle type. In timed dry the timer would get power directly through a set of timer contacts. |

What is the model number? If it is a gas dryer, it doesn't have a heating element.

I agree with denman that it is probably an open heater element as that may give your exact symptoms of no heat, no timer advance in auto dry and timer advance but no shut off in timed dry however this is just a best guess without having the dryer model number. Without the number, we can't look at the wiring diagram or parts diagrams. There are many variations among models.
