Hey guys.
I'm a fledgling appliance repairman and I've got a head scratcher. The dryer I'm working on will not Run for more than a few seconds before shutting off. Checked the door switch and belt drive, everything seems fine. Vacuumed the caked inch of lint out, ran the dryer without the drum attached, it spun up nice and quick. Closed it up, still has a burning smell and won't spin, even without the lint inside. Each time the temp fuse clicks, so I'm not sure if the fuse is bad, or if it's my original hunch and it's the motor. Any ideas?

A model number may help others help you.
Check the drag on the motor. Rotate the drum in the correct direction by hand. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to do this on a couple other units to get a feel for it.
Check the seal (if there is one) between the blower and the motor. Sometimes if it is bad hot air is blown back onto the motor causing it to overheat. If it runs OK in a no heat cycle type then the above is not your problem.
If all OK then odds are that it is the motor.

Also it may just be semantics but a fuse cannot reset once blown it stays blown. |
