My 8 yo GE spacemaker microwave just stopped heating and defrosting. The lights, timer, clock, fan, turntable, vent fan, beeper controls all work. It just doesn't heat. Any ideas on what could be broken?

Most likely the problem is a bad magnetron (#73 on the diagram).

- The magnetron Part number: AP2025937

Thank you for your prompt diagnosis and response. We're going to replace it. The new part costs as much as what the microwave is worth. Saw on another forum that LG brand warranties their magnatrons for 10 years.

I would not buy any LG appliances because of problems with knowledgeable repair techs and lack of local parts suppliers.

Good news! My appliance dealer's service dept said the magnetron for my GE microwave is under warranty for 10 yrs. So GE will replace the part at no cost to us. We pay labor. I had wrongly assumed the warranty on the entire microwave was for 1 year according to users manual. Thanks to a reputable service dept, I don't have to replace it with a new one, just a new part. Thanks for the advice on the LG products. I've taken enough of your time. God Bless you!
