Washer not spinning after replacing Thrust Bearing Kit

Our washer will not spin at all. It will agitate and the water will drain but no spin.
After reading several threads and solutions here I purchased the Thrust Bearing Kit Part Number: AP4009132 believing that to be the answer.
Shipped one day and received the next - Thanks for the fast service.
Now my problem - The parts that came off the machine looked nothing like the parts in the package. There was no bearing on the machine, just a series of washers. One was with some sort of ridges and one was a thin compression washer. There was three or four others. I read where machines might vary so I went ahead and put the new parts on.
The only final washer that I could get anywhere close to going on there was the .032. I could not get the Reference Cam Arrow to line up between Minimum and Maximum Pulley Hub Reference marks. I tried the machine anyway and it still would not spin.
I took the .032 washer off and went with no washer. The Reference Cam Arrow then lined up between Minimum and Maximum Pulley Hub Reference marks.
Pulley had a little play in it but I tried it anyway. Machine would not spin.
The directions and video looked so simple so that is why I gave this a try.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I have the right part? Is there another problem?
I don't really want to have a repairman come out or worse yet buy a new washer.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
