My washer fills with water, then sits there (no noise at all) for several minutes, then drains. There's no agitation whatsoever (and no indication that it's even trying to agitate).

I'm a novice when it comes to appliance repair, but I'm pretty handy with tools and really good at following instructions. How do I start diagnosing the problem?

Most likely the timer which is no longer available except through third party Internet vendors. Timer part number is 22002828. You can try a test to confirm. After washer has filled and should be agitating, place a jumper wire between ground and the blue wire terminal on the back of the 4-button cycle switch.

Grounding the blue wire did indeed start the agitation cycle.

It looks like a new timer would set me back $175—quite a bit when I only paid a couple hundred for the washer/dryer set (used) a couple years ago... But I found a used timer on ******** for $35. Hopefully it'll do the trick.

Thanks for your help!! :)
